Park City Real Estate Market

Have you heard? Home sales are up in Park City, Utah!

Utah's Gov. Gary Herbert recently spoke with the Park City Board of Realtors touting the economy for the state of Utah. "Utah's economy is growing three times faster than the national average", according to Governor Herbert.  Politics aside, Park City is still enjoying one of the most active markets in the state and while the media reports that there are new government attempts to shore up the national real estate markets,  the Park City Board and the local media recently reported at the same Park City Board of Realtors luncheon that inventory is down and the number of sales was up 18 percent from last year and up 86 percent from two years ago.

In the same article, Park City property values were not as optimistic as the volume of sales.  If you are looking to sell your Park City home you might find that values are up in some areas. "The overall number of sales and single-family home prices are the two bright spots in our market," according to the past president of the Park City Board. However, condominium continue to decline. Median average sale prices were down 19 percent from last year across the board, and condo sale prices within the Park City limits are down 39 percent from last year.

Our team is encouraged by a fall in inventory in our market, and many factors affect the numbers from year-to-year, for example sales of high-end Deer Valley condominiums closing in 2010 will abnormally effect 2011 numbers. Park City, once a thriving mining town, has transformed into world-class four-season resort town, easily accessible from almost anywhere in the country, as well a thriving primary residential community with top-rated schools and a plethora of recreational opportunities for the young, and the young at heart.

Located 40 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport, Park City is a world-renown destination resort.  Each year thousands flock to our tiny resort town to experience for themselves what the locals enjoy each day, the Park City lifestyle.

However, not everyone stays in town. Park City and the Heber Valley are great staging places to experience "Life Elevated", the official motto for the State of Utah.

Last week, we were reminded of the beauty and accessibility Utah has to offer. While Erik Schlopy was preparing for the grueling 24 Hours of Moab, a team mountain-bike race near Arches National Park in support of World Cup Dreams Foundation, Marny Schlopy was in St. George, Utah  putting the finishing touches on her Bronze Medal in hill climb at the Huntsman Senior games - we are so proud of Erik and Marny living life elevated in true Park City fashion. Both Moab and St. George are only four hours from Park City, both are well worth the drive.

Did you know Utah is home to six National Parks? Zions, Canyonlands, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Arches and Capitol Reef are all accessible from the Park City area. For those wanting to venture out of state, Yellowstone, The Grand Canyon and America's newest National Park, the Great Basin National Park are also less than a day’s drive from Park City.

If you are looking for a day trip you might try a day of fly-fishing on the Provo or Green Rivers. Check out one of the local guide services to find the best spots on the rivers. For those looking for a more scenic view of the area, Park City and the Heber Valley are home to some fantastic hot-air ballooning companies or contact the Heber Valley Airport and fit yourself into a glider and experience the true meaning of a mountain updraft.

Yes, “life elevated” is alive and well in Park City. For more information be sure to follow Team Schlopy on Facebook and Twitter or contact a Team Schlopy member today!
